Seaside Buildings and Urban Space

The overall design is directed by the variety of strong elements from the immediate context. The client MERKO are involved in civil engineering and construction meanwhile BLRT group focused on the boat construction industry. The final inhabitant are potentially “in love” with the sea and the place used to be a real building ship-yard. The natural context is of course the sea with it’s waves, wind and related man made aspects are the ship and boat. Therefore it seems logical that leaving here could be like being on boat. That’s why many aspects of this building from the construction point of view to the facade design and choice of material can recall shape and elements inherent to the sea side activity.. Firstly, the long dimension of the volume proposed is already announcing the linear shape of ship. The white line that end up with open terase is reinforcing this aspect. The variation of thickness is recalling the plasticity of shape present in the boat industry. Terraces are like decks, like floating in the air above the northern sea, from the other side it is like floating above a green area defined by the park. In a metaphorical homage to the site’s maritime history, the building assumes the role of columns reminiscent of temporary structures used in boat construction. The choice of a pristine white hue and elongated dimensions evokes the masts of sailing boats and the luxurious woodwork beneath their decks, weaving a narrative of elegance and nostalgia into the architectural identity. The first-floor construction draws inspiration from boats, resolving the cantilever challenge with a sleek curved cross-metal structure.
